I would welcome ideas on the following problem. I am having difficulties
in getting my customers to visit my business website. In particular I
need ideas that are not going to involve spending too much cash as we are
quite a small business.
Our business is researching the markets for Information Technology mainly
in the UK and Eire but also to some extent the rest of Europe. We put
these findings in packaged reports which we then sell to IT companies for
a cost of around 180 (UKP). This is a well established business of some
ten years standing, and we market these reports almost exclusively by direct
mail. We have 2,000 plus customers, again mostly in the UK & Eire, but a
few from further afield. A good proportion of our business is from
existing customers. We thought that this business was ideally suited to
WEB marketing and accordingly set up a website in July of this year. As
most of our customers are in large hardware, software, consultancy etc
companies I am sure a good proportion have access to email and the Web.
We were hoping in part for increased sales but also to save some of the
high cost of direct marketing.
I have done many of the things suggested in this group to gain visitors,
the site is now well indexed on the main search indexes, the URL is well
publicised in all our printed literature, we have posted a few of the key
findings from our reports on the website etc etc. From the small number
of visitors we have received we have got some business, so I cannot say
the project has been a failure. I have not found any particularly
suitable Usenet group which covers our subject so have not been able to
use this publicity route.
It is interesting that a set of Web pages for personal interest matters
is geting some 50 times the number of hits that our business pages
receive. &lt;<a href="<a href="http://www.demon.co.uk/mace/cacmall.html">http://www.demon.co.uk/mace/cacmall.html</a>">http://www.demon.co.uk/mace/cacmall.html</a>&gt;
