While we believe the sponsorship business model for home pages has
been most successful to this point, we feel that the market we're
targeting may very well pay for an electronic journal. We're willing
at the very least to give it a whirl.
One of the problems, beyond the obvious, is how to develop a password
system to make sure only paying subscribers are allowed into the areas
we designate for "subscriber-only" access. I am aware of a few sites
that have such a system (eg, pathfinder -- although you don't
necessarily have to "pay" for access), but we by no means have the
funds to develop our own software for this.
My question is, are there software packages out there that can be
licensed or purchased outright that would allow us to enroll
subscribers at the front door of our site and keep track of them
afterwards, letting only active subs access the really good content?
I know they exist, but how can we get our hands on one?
I'd appreciate any and all help.
