What do you think?

Hello,

Another lurker de-cloaks! ;-)

I am prompted to post because of a recent event.

I visited a website hosted by the "MBS Program."
They offer the A1 Index of 188 WWW URL submission &
Search Sites. I tried to access that several times and
couldn't connect, so I sent them an email from their site
to that effect.

They replied to my query. So far so good.

However, I also received a lengthy junk email from them advertising
their services:

>Thank you for visiting the Create-An-Opportunity Information
>Exchange and the Internet Marketing Report - two Internet
>marketing web sites sponsored by the MBS Program, Microm
>Management Accountants and the A1 Index of 188 Free WWW URL
>Submission & Search Sites.
etc., etc.

and worse yet they said:

> By default we'll add you to our moderated mailing list.

...thus, adding insult to injury.

My query only concerned the difficulty I had accessing their A1 Index
site. Nowhere in that message did I request any further information
nor did I ask to be placed on their mailing list.

Needless to say, I politely informed them of my displeasure of
this practice and sent a carbon copy to their postmaster.

What do others think about having an innocent query followed up
with unwelcome advertisement and default membership to a mailing
list? I find this especially bad coming from a group claiming to
offer marketing consultation services and assistance over the net.
If you think this is inappropriate perhaps you might want
to email them at mbsprog@idirect.com?

Cheers,
Claudia
P.S. They do say:
>Your suggestions and comments are always welcomed!
