I think that the numbers of multiple domains are likely to be a little
higher than that. To cite one example, Kraft is listed twice on list of
companies that hold 20 or more, as Kraft Foods and Kraft General
Foods.

I am aware of several companies that register domains for various
operating companies, ex Sun Microsystems is

SMAN.COM JAVASOFT.COM PASTEUR.COM RESELLER.COM
SOLARNET.COM SUNPESTS.COM SUNERGY.COM SOLARWEB.COM
SUNLABS.COM SMLI.COM SUN.COM DEVCON94.COM
SUNSERVICE.COM INFOSPHERE.COM RFNET.COM

All of those domains came from 2 different spellings of Sun Microsystems,
Sunsoft and Sunservice. Please note that Sunsoft had only one domain
name. All of the various AT&T groups add up to 20, but they are all
different operating companies.

I think this is important when comparing apples to apples. When
we say that there are 10 million businesses in the US, are we
counting corporations or OpCos?
