According to laws enforced by the Federal Trade Commission, once an order
is placed _and paid for_, the seller has _30 days_ to fill and ship the
product. Unfortunately, I can't find my copy of Katie Muldoon's book
_Catalog Marketing_ which covers laws relating to mail order, among its
many chapters. Probably most decent books on mail order have a chapter
on the legal aspects. My understanding is that the FTC believes that
online marketing is subject to the same rules and regulations of "mail"
order.

I think the key is as long as you don't receive money, you "can get away
with" not shipping in 30 days. That is done with product testing, such
as for possible new magazines.

I think the "6 to 8 week" shipping time you mentioned has more to do with
the vagaries of shipping by parcel post or 4th class book rate. In the
U.S., UPS and Roadway take no more than 6 days to go from one end of the
continental U.S. to the other. Book rate takes up to two weeks.

law site, which may have the actual regulations posted.
