Why stateful??

The point is that people will seek information that is filtered to
their preferences. The stateful technology that is used to filter that
information benefits both the publisher, and the advertiser. The
publisher filters content for the user, while simultaneously
qualifying them for advertisers. And in the end you, the publisher,
get to make money charging premium dollars for ad space on your site
because you can deliver a qualified audience to your advertiser.
