> It is early days for browsers yet, and I just know that in some
>corporate digs or a dorm room somewhere, somebody is working on something
>wonderful.
My guess is that when that something wonderful appears, it will either be
purchased and incorporated by Netscape or they will find a way to let
Netscape viewers see it. Netscape is here for the long haul, not just
because of the specific features of their browsers anno 1995, but because of
a demonstrated ability to follow up, make revisions (about half a dozen
since their 1.1 release in April this year), remove bugs quickly (e.g. the
unintended multiple background feature) and stand its ground against
conservative parts of the Internet community (many 'netscapisms' are now
actually becoming part of HTML 3, to the chagrin of purists who spent the
better part of last spring flaming Netscape in assorted web design news groups).
There are lots of browsers out there that were 'wonderful' when they
arrived (Cello, Winweb, Mosaic, Spry Air Mosaic etc.) but which have been
static since they arrived.
Netscape Corp.'s main quality is that it has shown itself to be dynamic
and responsive. Unless someone with at least one wonderful idea, all the
above qualities, and a tremendous amount of marketing capital comes along
very soon, my bet is that we are looking at the web version of Microsoft Corp.
