Netscape 2.0 and Gold sound terrific, and I suspect that they absolutely
will be but ....
<i>&gt;</i>
<i>&gt;With 70% or more of the market covered and with the best extentions around,</i>
<i>&gt;I reckon Netscape is about to consolidate it's pre-eminent position.</i>
my take is that the race is very far from over; it has just started! My
personal prediction (crystal ball and psychic hotline assisted) are that
they will be very hard pressed to hang on to that market share in the long
run. It is early days for browsers yet, and I just know that in some
corporate digs or a dorm room somewhere, somebody is working on something
wonderful.
<i>&gt;If, as I expect, the Netscape page editing product will do what it is</i>
<i>&gt;setting out to do, then who will want to resist using it to quickly generate</i>
<i>&gt;good-looking pages? The number of Netscape enhanced pages will rise</i>
<i>&gt;dramatically and the market will then force all other browsers to follow</i>
<i>&gt;Netscape's lead.</i>
Java/Hot Java are just the beginning of what can happen in a competitive
market. And I just can't imagine that some very heavy hitters are conceding
the field just yet. To paraphrase Yogi Berra, the game isn't over 'till it's
over. And my bet is it's not over.
