This is my first post to the list, so first let me thank Glenn and all of
you for keeping such an invaluable resource as this list!
We are an Internet Consulting business in Brazil (we host the brazilian
marketing discussion list), and we'd like to hear your opinion on a service
we're planning to offer.
With the passing of the CDA by Congress, american ISPs are co-responsible
for any information stored in their servers. With legislation banning any
"indecent" material on the Internet, many organizations have decided to
protest and defend the freedom of speech in the Net. Living in a country
that was once a dictatorship, we have the necessary hindsight to know the
negative effects of censorship, so we decided to offer an alternative to
sites that might be censored in the US.
We are setting up a resource center with information about the blue ribbon
campaign and links to related sites, as a way to promote our services.
These services are basically the same we offer our brazilian customers (web
hosting and design, e-mail and FTP accounts, etc), with the exception that
since we're not located in the US we're not subjected to the CDA and,
therefore, to censorship of any kind.
So we'd like to get your opinion:
- do you think it's a viable market?
- what could be the pro/cons?
- how can we reach qualified customers?
- any tips on how to market this service?
Thanks a lot for your attention!
Best regards,
Pedro de Almeida
