Java's Future on the Web

Bill Moore, while making some very nice comments about Java, mentioned
the Gamelan Applet archive site. I just wanted to add a bit of a caveat
to that and warn people that while Gamelan does have a tremendous number
of applets available, they're not really good about making sure they work
or are safe. We here at Java-SIG (the national Java special interest
group, part of the Sun User Group) are putting together a CD-Rom
Library of Applets. In the process of putting this together, we've
been testing a number of the Gamelan applets and have found that many
of them are not actually in working states yet (and one of them actually
crashed our system). Yes, Gamelan is big but be careful there.
