<i>&gt; Greetings! Yesterday, I read the Millicent micro-payment systems proposal</i>
<i>&gt; (URL: <a href="<a href="http://HTTP.CS.Berkeley.EDU/~gauthier/millicent/millicent.html">http://HTTP.CS.Berkeley.EDU/~gauthier/millicent/millicent.html</a>">http://HTTP.CS.Berkeley.EDU/~gauthier/millicent/millicent.html</a></i>
<i>&gt;</i>
<i>&gt; For those who haven't read it yet, I would like to encourage you to do so,</i>
<i>&gt; especially if you're interested in finding a way to generate income for an</i>
<i>&gt; online publication.</i>
Hello all. Our approach to micro-payments is similar to Millicent but we are
adapting the pre-paid phone card model for our CashCard in order to establish
anonymous web cash accounts. WebATM provides 3rd party broker services and the
gain is that users/shoppers need not use encryption keys, credit cards, bank
accounts, nor do they need an e-mail account at all.
Bill Moore makes the point that valuable content is fostered by adequate direct
pay mechanisms, rather than secondary ad revenue generation schemes (the TV
model)
and I quite agree. Interactive communication has always aimed for a
filtering of
secondary information - banner ads? - in favor of the immediate purpose of the
communication. Who among us would want Visa Gold Card ads interspersed in our
voice mail messages, when all we want is to quickly find out who called?
