1:1 Marketing

I have been catching up on my reading over the Xmas & New Year
break, and came across this passage in an article reviewing
a book _The One-to-One Future_:

"The old paradigm - a systen if mass production, mass media and mass
marketing - is being replaced by a totally new paradigm: a 1:1 economic
system.

The 1:1 future will be characterised by customised production,
individually addressable media and 1:1 marketing. Instead of
market share, the goal of most business competition will
be share of customer - one customer at a time.

In the 1:1 future, the focus will be less on short-term profits
than the kinds of profits that can be realised from long-term
customer retention"
