I have a question on copyright transmission in the UK.
On the 12th of October 1995 I was engaged by an Internet Cafe in the UK on a
freelance basis to design some web pages for a local Vineyard / Wine
Retailer. These pages were prepared by myself and accepted by the Cafe and
Vineyard owner. I duly submitted the pages followed by an invoice for the
work carried out. As yet I have received no payment for my work, although
the actual client has paid the Cafe.
The pages showed clearly that the copyright to the pages belonged to myself.
On the 2nd January 1996 I found that the Cafe in question have changed three
or so GIF files on the pages and also changed the copyright to their own name.
I understand that BT is the lease line provider. I have been advised by a
solicitor friend of mine that they are partly responsible for ensuring that
material that is in breach of copyright is not transmitted through their lines.
Question, who do I hassle? Does anyone have any similar experiences and
what, if anything, did they do? Is there a judicial precedent in the UK yet?
Would appreciate all replies send to me "website@pavilion.co.uk" or post
them to the list if they are extremely useful and might save similar hassle
for others.
