Update/Advice--Another trench

Tommy,

Glad to hear that you've come to a satisfactory conclusion to your
situation. I was particularly interested in your story since I'm starting my
own corporate odyssey under much the same circumstances.

At first none of the various dept's in the corporation were interested in
getting involved with the web site. Only one person (my contact within the
corporation's marketing dept.) had the vision and was willing to make the
commitment to get things moving.

PAUSE HERE for two months of corporate indecisiveness.

...After some high level staff changes and a new _focus_ on the customer a
committee has been created to oversee the web sites' development and now
everyone wants their say. I was recently informed by my contact that IS had
already signed a contract with a service provider (guess I can scratch that
item off the proposal that I sent) without having decided what they wanted
to accomplish with their site. The particular ISP that they chose was not
the issue for me (they are a national provider with a good reputation) but
the fact that they jumped the gun from planning right into an implementation
item makes me wonder how much _fun_ I'll have developing a site with them.
If I get the project--which is the point of my post. I thought I was in a
pretty good position to get the job a couple of months ago. But the longer
this drags on the less likely I feel my chances are of landing the project.

At this point a little background may be in order. Like you Tommy I've had a
good relationship with this company for the past several years. I know their
corporate culture inside and out and have a pretty good feel for what will
work for them on the web (in no small part due to the insights that I've
gained from the keen minds of the wonderful folks on this list). I'm new to
web development but am an old hand at various forms of marketing
communications (including video, print and multimedia).

I'm sure I'll be competing with established (i.e. those with 3 or more sites
;-) web developers in this area and that others in the committee will have
contacts that they'll want to bring into the project.

If I get the job I'll definitely use some of Tommy's excellent suggestions
for dealing with the committee during the development process. But does
anyone have any strategies that might help me to close the sale?

Thanks.

BTW Tommy since you've come to terms with your client would you mind posting
the URL for us to check out.
