On 30 Jan 1996, Kevin Bedell <kbedell@magicnet.net> sez:
>Kevin's first law of the internet states that: "Creativity abhors a vacuum".
>If no "good" Dr. Seuss sites are on the net, some creative soul is bound to
>try to develop one.

Absolutely. Bears repeating.

>My recommendation is to have Mr. Seuss' widow put money into site
>development now, or save it for legal action to protect his legacy later.

The former makes better sense than the latter. Most "fans" will put in
links to the "official" site, hoping for reciprocals that increase their own
traffic. It will be harder to protect it later if no "official" site exists
now, and there are no immediate plans for one. A reasonably good site can
be set up for much less than the cost of the lawyers fees.

>Maybe someone on the list knows someone who may be interested in donating
>resources or expertise to help their cause.

Why not approach a good "fan" site and "sponsor" it, make it the official
site. This seems to me the best way to generate good will: the estate is
supporting a fan's efforts, recognizing them, and at the same time
establishing a Web presence, which in and of itself is a step towards
protection. Another idea is a "Seuss Approved" button, sort of like
"Netscape Now", that leads back to the "official" site. I'd kill for the
recognition, if it was one of mine, it would be a goal to attain. Just
think! Getting a letter of appreciation from the widow of your idol? How
could anyone fail to have a "KEWL!" attack over that one? Some of these
estates and companies could learn a thing or too from "Mrs. Suess".
