My initial premise is that human beings and the organizations they
form are competitive as well as cooperative.
That said, and understood as a part of our semi-capitalist society,
it should come as no surprise that First Virtual should attempt to
take advantage of recent events. And there are any number of
entrepreneurs who will take advantage of their system--and retreat
from some of the other solutions to the problem of money on the net.
Who can blame them for doing so?
Now then, the next thing that occurs to me, that happens to me, is
that my eyebrows raise, and my ears perk up to the question of who
the critics are connected with. I don't know. I'd like to know if
they are users, representatives of, or advocates of other net-money
systems.
So let me disclose something: I've signed up to use the First Virtual
system after about a year of poking around at the various possibilities.
It seemed like the simplest, safest choice.
Pardon me if this post seems a bit rude--but to individuals and
organizations entering bankruptcy, or the 10's of thousands who
are being downsized because of competition, it probably looks quite
a bit less than mild.
This list is one of the most civil I've ever subscribed to. Perhaps
that is a reflection of the intense competition going on in the
background. No doubt a number of the members have been drowned by
that intensity and disappeared.
To see the origins of this competition, visit your local elementary
school or city playground. Its fast and furious--as well as civil,
most of the time.
Of course, it is always possible that I'm missing the point of all
this. If so, please inform me.
