I am not a lawyer, and I don't play one on TV or the Net.

Because I too have done a fair amount of research on this, I have
consulted a lawyer with regard to copyrights, my homepages and my Web
presence. And while it is clear to me that a lot of this is *unclear*, I
really think we need to be *much* more cautious about giving one another
definitive advice about essentially legal matters, and outlining standard
practices as below:

Some of the practices seem fairly useful, but some of these are not
congruent with the advice I have received.

I am very much in favor of rip-roaring discussions of the issues, but I am
very much uneasy with creating a set of standards for good practice until
more of the issues have been clarified. And we have hardly started that
discussion.

The nice thing is of course, clarification can be expected when hell
freezes over (plus or minus a couple of days) I suspect.
