Some people were not clear what sort of book I was looking for, while some others said 'let
me know if you find it', so I obviously rang a bell with some people.
At least in the UK many of the Internet books are of the Internet for Dummies /Idiots
/Beginners type, which are fine for getting started, but you then outgrow them. I want to know
how to make advanced use of the Internet tools, and (as somebody pointed out) how to keep
up to date.
I also want a business book that assumes I know what the Internet is and what the bits are,
and just tells me how to use them.
David of David's Amazing Internet Services suggested 'Tricks of the Internet Gurus', which I
shall look out for.
Marcus Zillman told me of his Link Series professional Guides. I haven't seen these, but they
sound interesting. He says of them
>With regards to your recent post I have written a number of scholarly
>manuals on reference areas for the Internet.
>The most recent reference manuals I have completed cover all the gopher
>locations for business on the Internet. It is updated daily as many new
>sites are being added. It gives the URL for each site that is listed
>alphabetically by site classification or source. I also send quarterly
>updates to all subscribers.
>In other smaller chapters of the manual I discuss Gophmail as well as
>Veronica, Jughead and how to stay competent in your given subject
>area (if that is possible :-) )
>The *LinkSeries* Professional Internet Resource Manuals could be
>available at your local *leading* library reference room.
He's obviously a modest chap as he didn't send his communication to the list 'well at least it
didn't appear.'

Dave Taylor suggested his well known 'The Internet Business Guide', which I will have
another look at the next time I see it. Does it not still contain a bunch of introductory stuff
though? Dave can be contacted on taylor@netcom.com
Since I sent the original request I have discovered a www site for print publications related to
business use of the Internet. This is at http://arganet.tenagra.com/Tenagra/books.html and
contains hypertext links to reviews and announcements about various publications. Could be
a useful site.
I have also bought a book called 'Detour' subtitled 'The Truth About the Information
Superhighway.' I haven't seen references to this anywhere. It is by Michael Sullivan-Trainor,
who is billed as senior editor of Computerworld (not a publication I am familiar with). The
blurb on the jacket says 'The information superhighway is poised to change business, health
care, education, and entertainment. Inside 'Detour' you'll get a glimpse of the real
opportunities and frustrations the superhighway will bring, through the insightful opinions of
today's technology leaders.' It runs to 315 pages with index, bibliography and glossary, and
appears to be a broad look at the opportunities and issues to do with the Info superhighway,
with a forward looking perspective. It is published by IDG Books Worldwide, ISBN 1-56884-
307-0, and I reckon it's worth a look.
