This is my first posting to this forum, so if I'm out of line, just slap me a
couple of times. It seems to me that everyone is forgetting that online
shopping is going to be just ANOTHER way of shopping, and as such, some
things will be cheaper to buy online and some things will actually be more
expensive. I live in Toledo Ohio, which is a VERY competitive market. I see
computer equipment all the time here that the likes of Home Shopping Club,
etc. can't touch with a fifty foot poll on price. On the other hand, I
recently looked at America On-Line's shopping service for a car stereo for my
girlfriend this Christmas and found several models as much as $100 less than
I can get in town. And since I don't have access to the JCPenny catalog or
such, and I am on the computer a *significant* part of the time anymore, I'm
becoming more comfortable with doing my shopping electronically. Point is, I
guess, is don't be so analytical about it. If it's what they want, they will
come. If not, companies will find that maintaining an online presence isn't
worth the trouble. And customers won't buy.
