When you say 'fewer catalogs to mail' I'm sure you're also thinking about those
fewer catalogs to print. The net savings could eventually be significant.
But, lets face it, real shopping by catalog on the web isn't going to happen
until the catalogs become really entertaining. And that's going to take
faster connections. Meanwhile, the web can be a perfect place for
catalog companies to establish a presence, gather catalog 'requests' from
interested
potential customers, get some media attention ,test new products with a
minimal investment etc. Its a little hard to quantify these kinds of
benefits but they are real.
