I'm going to disagree with Cliff here. There is an organization (two
actually - IETF WG on HTML and W3C) that are doing development work on
enhancing HTML. Netscape has chosen a direction that isn't quite parallel
to these organizations, and I forsee an HTML schizm like the BSD/SysV
divide. For example Netscape uses <CENTER> to center text. The organization's
proposed implementation is <P ALIGN="Center">. According to something
I read on their server they specifically chose to use <CENTER> because
the other method supposedly caused some problems with viewers that didn't
support it. I have yet to have seen these problems. Someone also told
me that Netscape is supposed to support <P ALIGN="Center">, but the
last time I looked it didn't.
I don't have a problem with incorporating extensions that are really new.
However, I would like to see Netscape follow suit with the proposed
standards too.
